To me my friends and family are still a big part in how meaningful my life is, but now im more open to new ideas/concepts, and seeing things into a new light. Like now I fully include death into my life, back then i didnt really like thinking much about death, since im alive right now and that was enough for me at that moment, and also i kinda feared death, but now i dont really, since its inescapable, might as well embrace the idea. So i dont really like put too much mind on how our society is going to collapse, whether it just going to an economic collapse or if its a collapse where theres destruction and chaos, since its too late now to really regret since people just arent going to stop doing what they are doing to same the society which they dont believe is truly collapsing. Not that i dont care, i do, i just dont worry about it much now, since whatever happens, is going to happen, and its likely that there will be a collapse, and theres no use in worrying, if worrying isnt going to do anything.
I also consider my health to be more important, back then I went out for fresh air, exercised, but now im more careful with what i eat, like i'll pick the more health food, and sometimes the organic whenever we can afford. Animals make my life meaningful, whether its food, or play mates, they're important in my life, and even though the animals are treated cruelly for the sake of us being able to have breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, i still cant really just change completely the way i eat, but i will try to eat free range chicken, where they at least were treated right, but right now i cant really change completely i'll slowly try. Also i 'll look at shampoo reviews/summaries that say its a free of animals cruelty.
I also value the animal in me, even though my parents dont believe we are animals, i believe we are, after all we evolved from animals, and theres not really any differences between us humans and non-human animals, we eat, shit, sleep, attract attention, are dangerous. I think now i'll be more "natural", like maybe i'll birth natural, with out having to deal with substance being put into my body to numb the pain, i mean, if the animals can do it, why cant we?.
Comparing to how meaningful my life was back then, it was more filled with worrying, and fears, since i didnt really have much knowledge in anything only in what people say, like "its the end of the world tomorrow" and i'd be having a panic attack, but now im more relaxed about its, more open, i'll listen to whatever ideas people may have, but there will need to be a lot of proof for me to actually believe, since now im not as believing as back then, i'll only accept an idea if theres plenty of evidence. Back then if you asked me how happy i am with my life from 1 - 10, i would've said 6, now i would say a 4 or 5, so you could say my life got more meaningless, but i'd like to view it more as i dont really care much now, and im being more realistic, like even though my friends and family do make me happy, its not like they're with me 24/7 and there are many things that make me see just how life isnt THAT meaningful, like if it was, then people would care more about the earth, about our food, about the animals. What would make life more meaningful, would be if people actually made a difference that benefitting for everyone, and everything, or that wont affect our world and ourselves negatively. Also if we didnt depend so much on things to do everything for us, its only making things worse, using us our oil, dirtying our food, which we eat, putting our whole trust on the farmers that gives us that food. Though i guess it really actually depends on the people, some just dont care, as all as they feel comfortable, and have all the things they enjoy, that how they make their life meaningful, like Andy Snyder said “Sometimes the way we determine the meaning of something is based on the function it serves in our lives".

Collapse Assignment 2: Short and smart
Though most of us do not like to admit or believe in the fact that our society will eventually collapse, it will happen. From the Easter Island reading we did, the natives had used up all their resources, which is the reason for their collapse. They used up all their giant trees which they used for canoes to hunt for dolphins. We too are using too much of our trees, the population of trees are decreasing more and more.
There were also people who gained power by promising to "deliver prosperity and bountiful harvest" yet when it became noticeable that they weren't keeping their promises, they were overthrown and a war broke out which made "Easter's formerly complexly integrated society" collapse. Like us, we have people in power called presidents, and if they're promises aren't that would be the downfall for all society, which can result in having wars to get resources to get our society to rise higher.
Our society also using a lot of oil for everything cars, plastic, ect,. Peak oil is the problem of energy resource depletion, in the USA, we're already experienced our oil peak, and as we learned many times before, "what goes up, must come down", meaning that as time goes by we will have lesser oil, and if it keeps going, we'll eventually run out, unless we discover something else. If that happens then we wont much resources, because everything we own is made from oil, or was made by oil, like machine handling our food, will cause our society to collapse.

Food Paper
When we think of farms, we think of pigs, cows, chickens and other animals out in the ground eating their food outside in the fresh air, and being treated with care, since those animals will eventually become the food we will eat. That is nothing but a 'lie we tell ourselves where our food come from' (meatrix), in most farm the animals are cooped with each other with hardly any space to freely walk around, which can cause them to hurt each other from the lack of space, and also cause diseases, a way farmers try to decrease this problem, for example, they chopped off the beaks of chickens to prevent them from hurting each other, and they also give me a constant dose of antibiotics which can lead to development of antibiotic-resistant diseases. The workers treat them so harshly, like when the chickens, they high them up by the feet, and slit their throats even while being conscious. With the baby chick they throw them into boxes all on top of each other, which hurt the ones on the bottom, and they de-beak them at such a young age, and for the ones who look bad, they're throw away.

chapter 3 of Omnivore's Dilemma
In chapter three what i found interesting was clueless we are when how our food is handled and how different our care for our food is from other countries. I was surprise to read that they dropped the corn onto the ground, "floating in the puddles of rainwater, pancaked on the steel rails"(p.58). I would've thought farmers would care more for the food, since they're giving it away to stores were millions of people are buying them. This also shows how different we are from other countries, in Mexico you do onto leave corn on the ground "it is considered almost sacrilegious", and back then the Aztec never left corn on the ground in fear that god himself would punished them. yet here we are putting food we put in our mouth, on the ground, and yet we're always told to never eat things that been on the floor, kind of ironic really. This kind of makes me almost unsure of my food, i know we clean the food, but still to know they've been on the floor all dirty, give me an unpleasant feeling. How can be sure our food is safe to eat? how can farmers just be so careless with food? when were thought since we're little not to be wasteful.
to vincent - I honest think farmers should go back to go fashion farming when everything was done by hands, and with no chemicals, all natural. People now a days would do anything for money, evening if it means affecting what we eat. and i agree with the line "This shows how even the lowest food group as in corn affects the society highly when in trouble", when trouble hits, it hit everybody and everything, its like the domino affect really.
to kate - I know, people are always saying to be green, and save the earth and animals, yet we're turning every piece of free land we can find into anything that may be benefitting for us yet not the earth. Though farmers depend on how much land they need, because prices are rising and money is more important now, and they need more and more land in order to plant more corps. in the end the problem always seems to be money really.
i like how you mentioned something you knew alot about like the amazon rain forest. its good to connect things.

I honestly though the food in my fridge was going to be more fill with unhealthy food, because i dont really see my parents going in to take out a healthy snack, usually the baby carrots are untouched, until i notice them there. Which goes to show some of us dont really pay attention to whats in our fridge.

Response to Pollan
I agree to Michael Pollan's argument about how we americans don't have a stable food culture like the french and the italian, how we are confused on what food we should be eating, which makes us depend on food fads, that experts tell us are healthy for us. Some americans are so focused on having a good stable food culture, that whenever something new and healthier comes up when change how we eat. We listen to those ads on things like "nutri-system", and recipes online that "good" for staying fit. Yet most doctors i know dont believe in diets, they just think that if you eat a lesser portion of what you usually eat, and eat fruits and vegetables as well, that you would be fine. But americans are so easily fooled because the people who created these diets/way of eating, are professionals, and we believe believe almost anything if a professional approves of it.

repost of grocery part
When we went to the grocery, as i enter, and looked up, the first thing i saw was a bunch of shelves with chocolate, and other types of junk food, and i notice that junk food, which is kind of weird, cause when i think of grocery stores i think of vegetables, meat, fruits, not junk food, and yet thats the first thing to greet me, shows how much people came to love junk food, it now has to be placed where people can see it first. Also i notice that most of the organic/healthy food, is mixed in with the lesser unhealthy food, which i think is wrongly placed, because at first i hardly noticed it, until i gave another look, so people might miss it, and end up getting the lesser healthy food, which is less benefiting for them.

break homework
over the break i mostly stayed home, read, played some games and sit outside. I noticed that whenever i was inside my apartment, i felt more tired, and kind of like not motivated, but whenever i went outside, i felt better, more free, and relaxed to feel fresh air all around me. Sometimes though i didnt really enjoy being outside, like when i had to go to my dentist and doctors appointment i didnt really enjoy it, because i didnt want to go. So i guess not all the time people are happy being outside, only when it something they enjoy.
To be healthy to me, is to have no type of health problems, like low blood pressure or diabetes, and to not need to take medication and also to have a stable mind,

habitual food and grocery store
When ever we go to the grocery store, we usually go, when there are sales we usually buy, like plantains or yogurt. We mostly buy things to make sandwiches for breakfast or dinner, and bread., and a lot of yogurt. My mom usually buys fruit in those street fruit/veggie stands.
My way of eating different type of food probably came from, growing up with friends of different ethnicity, most of my friends growing up were asian, or half asian and half white, so i grew up eating different types of food, not just the one my mom made at home which was mostly rice and beans and chicken and salad, but also chinese, japanese, thai. My like for certain fruits and vegetables came from my mom, since she always made sure i ate healthy foods too. My diet habits are mostly fill with rice, chicken, berries, and salad and yogurt/milk. My favorite meal, is probably something foreign, something different than what i usually eat, maybe like sushi, or some pad thai with either seafood or tofu. From what i've heard or seen online, both dishes are apparently healthy.
When we went to the grocery, as i enter, and looked up, the first thing i saw was a bunch of shelves with chocolate, and other types of junk food, and i notice that junk food, which is kind of weird, cause when i think of grocery stores i think of vegetables, meat, fruits, not junk food, and yet thats the first thing to greet me, shows how much people came to love junk food, it now has to be placed where people can see it first. may day
I find it interesting that may day was originally a day of fertility, and spring planting, and then it changed because the british parliament banned it. I find it kind of unfair, because it was something people believed in, and acted upon, and then just because certain people didnt agree with it, it was banned. If people want a day to celebrate fertility, then they should be able to, after its how we were all made, and also it'll help with having more food, because if people take a day to plant food, or plants, it'll help our environment, and our society, so i dont really see anything that bad about it, only the part of having sex in public, but its a normal time in life, nothing to be offended or embarrassed that much about.

food journal
tuesday night, for dinner i had white rice and beans and some salad which my mom made, i ate my food with a spoon, and then a fork for the salad, the dressing had, lime and a bit of salt for the dressing. While eating it i was in my room sitting on my bed doing homework, while listening to music on the TV. I ate the rice and beans at 7pm for 30min, and then the salald at 8:30pm for 15min. My feelings while eating was pretty neutral, wasn't really into it, but wasnt hating the food, i chewed like about 11 times per chew. The next day for breakfast i had 3 yogurts, and a cup of soy very vanilla milk. I enjoyed my breakfast since i love yogurt, ate it with a spoon. I was feeling tired, and was eating it while putting on my shoes, in the living room. Then for lunch, i had some of the school lunch, which was chicken and pasta and some bread. I ate some of the pasta and chicken with a fork, and ate the bread with my hands, but i didnt finish it, because i didnt really enjoyed the lunch. Then for dinner, which my mom cooked, i had some white rice and a bit of beef, and salad. I ate everything with a fork, and chewed like about 11-13 time. I ate in my room reading a book, while music was playing on the TV. It took me about 30min to finish eating the rice and beef, starting at 6:30pm and then 20min to eat the salad, at 7:50.

Food culture, home & corporate
At home, my mom usually is the one to cook the food, but sometimes i would do it instead. The food is usually white rice, chicken cutlet/beef, beans, and salad, or sometimes is pasta with shrimp in it. The food is low on salt, because too much salt can cause kidney stones. Sometimes we just have takeout, like chinese food, or hispanic food. We dont eat together, my parents are in the living room, sitting on their chairs and watching TV, while im eating in my room doing homework. The american of dinner, is to have a meal together at a table, or together infront of the TV, so my family and the american way are different, since we dont spend it together.

answer to food question
How much food do we waste?
Based on a study from the University of Arizona in Tucson, the US wastes half its food. 40 - 50% of all food ready for harvest never gets eaten. All the food wasted arent even fully finished, and with all that food, we can help fill people that are in need for food. (foodnavigator-usa)

500 word essay on health
I find moral health most interesting out of the other health. What do you think is means to be morally healthy? to be a well behaved person?, to help others when they're in need? and to help our environment?. Most of those were what i thought being morally healthy was like, since we were told to help people, to make a good example of yourself, to be a wonderful person. Though you can see that society, even though we share some of the same morals, we dont always exactly follow them. For example like, helping people, there are millions of kids out there suffering, whether from being orphaned at a young age, or dealing with an illness, and all we need to do is send some money to help them out, and yet little amount of people actually do it. But sure why dont you buy yourself some nice shoes, or that pretty flat screen TV that would look great in your bedroom, instead of giving away your money to someone who can't afford to buy food, and wears the same clothes every single day, or to an ill child who can actually be cured in time if only someone payed the right amount. Thats the problem with society, we're all bent on getting all the new products that we will eventually grow tired of, and just spend money for our own pleasure. Not that there is anything wrong with buying stuff for yourself, but if you have being a good person and helping others for one of your morals, then i think you'll need to sacrifice some of the money.
Even when it involves our planet, we can't let go of our self-pleasures, all these cars, no matter how many changes or improvements people are trying to make, its still harming our planet, and yet we cant stop, because we're lazy selfish people. Instead of driving a car, we could atleast walk or ride a bike, which is so much more healthier, since both are a great way of getting exercise, and the only thing you can get from sitting is hemorrhoids, and some pounds, and nobody wants that. We even make a day for earth, yet we dont really do much for it, like what? planting a tree in your honor because you saw the movie "earth", why dont we just plant trees without needing a reason, besides trying to help the environment.
I think the only way our planet can be saved, is if we went back in time when there werent any cars, planes, rockets, and when we all did things with our own hands and used our own brain.
To deepen my health, instead of sitting infront of the computer or playing video games all the time, i might go out, walk, skate, maybe learn how to ride a bike, and also drag my friends along with me. Also I'll be more careful before accusing someone of being a bad person, when based on my moral im not even a good one either, i'll be more careful before using the word bad.

emotionally healthy and unhealthy
There was a family of four, that didnt act much like a family. The father would come back home at late hours, with the smell of perfume lingering on his clothes, with the same excuse "had to stay in late at work, sorry". The son skips school to go off with some "friends" to do drugs, and steal. The daughter was a whore, a high school drop out since she got knocked up by a guy who wants nothing to do with her. The mother the only one aware of everything that was happening to her loved ones, only grew more and more depressed after each time she tried to pick the pieces up, and only to be put down. That night, while no one was home yet, she took out a knife, went to her and her husbands bedroom, cut her wrists and with her blood wrote on the wall "I love you, goodbye". When everyone got home, they all went to their own room, and as the husband walked into his, he saw his wife dead, in a pool of her own blood.
It was a sad day for the johnsons, Mr.johnson had just passed away, from a heart attack.
All his friends and family came to his funeral, to pay respect, pray, and mourn. Gregory who was close to his father, was holding back his tears, as he came closer to his fathers casket, and when he saw his fathers pale stiff face, all the memories of them playing, joking around rushed threw his mind, and his tears slide down his cheeks, as he silently wept.

living Funeral
For my living funeral, I would like having my family and friends with me, spend the time i have left productively. It'd make me feel sad of course since im leaving everything behind, but at the same time i will die more happy because I got to spend the time i had left with loved ones, and having fun, instead of being alone, miserable, dying feeling so sad, and remorseful for not doing something productive.
For the funeral i would like it to be kind of like a party, just having fun, chatting, remembering old times, and letting things out, like feelings/thoughts of me.

Animal paper
When you see a person walking their dog, with a lease on it, do you imagine a human being pulled around with a lease on? no? why not? us humans are after all animals as well based on evolution, and how us humans evolved from animals. The reason we don't consider ourselves animals is because we were brought up being taught that there was is a big differences between humans and animals. Which isn't true, both humans and animal eat, sleep, and bathe, we aren't much different from one another. But we were taught that we are the top, and that animals are lower then us, which is how it is told in Genesis, that god made animals and everything for humans, that were are the superiors. Because of this we find it hard to put ourselves in the same category with animals.
Also another reason is because we spend more of our time with other humans, then animals, and when we do spend time with them, they're usually pets, that are there to be companion, connecting with the Genesis thing about how animals were put on this earth to serve us. Us human act so much more superior, as if we're immortal compared to the other animals.
It is good to acknowledge the animal in us, it can help you be more aware, like with giving birth. Women normally have birth in the hospital laying down on a bed, with doctor putting substances into them to help with the pain. Just like animals us females give birth, though they do it more naturally then us, it goes to show that us humans aren't much different then animals, and that if they can do it, they we sure can, so women shouldn't fear giving birth much, its part of our nature. Also it will make us more active, because being animals we have instinct to move around. When you move around more you'll feel much better, then being closed off hunched over a computer, because being animals we need to have our body moving to keep our mood up. Also it'll clear our way of thinking, we're nothing special, we're not special, its not like we're going to last, someday us humans just might go extinct in the future, just like how other animals have, though by then, most might've evolved into something else.
I personally accept being an animal, i see nothing wrong with it, its the way of life just like everything else. I personally feel more at peace accepting what i am, it makes me more happy, since it makes me want to be more active. When I might have kids i'd like to do it naturally, not laying down, more like how animals do it, and with no weird substances entering my body, that i know nothing of. I've accepted the animal in me, I'm hoping this will make me more relaxed in the future.

another interview
1)Was life better for you when you were younger or now?
aunt - its better now, i actually have better clothes and plenty of food, and a nice place to live in
2)Were you happier with your life when you were young or now?
aunt - more now, but i liked it better when family was close, here family dont come see each other as much.
3) What's your opinion on us younger generation?
aunt - you take things for granted and waste a lot of money, you all like to buy things, in the end you wont use anymore. Also your generation don't go and visit family a lot, and one day you just might need them. You all have such good education, that we didn't have back then, yet you dont do your work because your all so lazy.
My opinion on old people
My feelings towards old people is neutral i don't dislike them but they're not the best people to hang out with. Sometimes i find them annoying but only when they tend to repeat things over and over again and when they complain too much, but other then that I'm fine with them. I think they're just like us, just in a different stage, and sometimes a different time. But thats going to be all of us, we're going to grow old and think differently then how the young people will because we grew up in a different time period. I see people as people who tend to give out advice a lot, some what like lecturing you, but then again all people do that when they're giving out advice.

inauguration
in the inauguration Obama mention that our success depends "hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism" which is like how in folk culture, people tell us how, that through hard work we can succeed in what we want, and also to be loyal to those we are close with, and that these things are part of what makes a good and meaningful life. Also Obama mentioned God a lot in his speech which goes that religion is important to him in some way, and in parents or family members also told me to go to church on sundays, that god is the only one thats always with you in soul, and to be faithful to god, and to have a good and meaningful life, you need god to be by your side.
Martin Luther King day
On Martin Luther King day i dont really do anything cause i dont celebrate it, but on TV there were alot of shows about him. On this day we're focusing on this man who stood up to fight for more rights for black people and end segregation between whites and blacks. In a good and meaningful life, people say that being equal to one another is part of having a good and meaningful life. So by everyone of different race accepting each other, there is a feeling of unity which people also think is important to having a good and meaningful life.

Holiday insight
Christmas is a day where we celebrate the day Jesus was born by, spending time with family and friends, or going out and partying, and giving each other gifts. Its a day where we waste our money to buy people things, instead of giving them what we already have like it was originally made to be. This goes to show how dependent we've become with technology and other things that didn't exist before. We depend on products corporate media influenced us to want/like, to make other people happy and satisfied with their life.
Christmas shows us that to have a good and meaningful life, we need each other, and other things which we find are meaningful, which reminds me of quotes from Fight Club about how "we're consumers" and how the "things you used to own, now they own you" because each time something hip comes out, people become so interested in it and want to buy it, and then you just stay obsessed with it until a new item comes out and that becomes your new "master" making you waste your money for it, even though you don't need it to survive in this world, just to rank where you are in popularity. So all in all, christmas tells us to spend time with family and friends, drink and party, and become mindless zombie and go out and buy a lot of things while they're still on sale, since things make your life more meaningful.

winter holidays
For christmas, my mom made a lot of food because family members and friends were coming over. We all talked, watched TV, the kids went to my room and played video games, and had fun. Then we eat, and at midnight we open our presents, and show every one what it is. After all that the guest would leave and go back home. On new years, i spent time with my family again, and once it hit 12, we ate 12 grapes saying a desire we had on each grape, and then threw some coins out the window and drank wine, and wished each other a good and healthy future.
The dominant corporate messages of how to live a good and meaningful life, is to be with the people you love, family, friends, and lovers. That spending time with them is fun and makes you happy, so of course whenever its a holiday you're with them, since happiness makes your life meaningful. Also getting things you like make you happy, especially since its free, meaning you didn't need to use your money, which follows the money is important to have a good and meaningful life.
