Response to Pollan

I agree to Michael Pollan's argument about how we americans don't have a stable food culture like the french and the italian, how we are confused on what food we should be eating, which makes us depend on food fads, that experts tell us are healthy for us. Some americans are so focused on having a good stable food culture, that whenever something new and healthier comes up when change how we eat. We listen to those ads on things like "nutri-system", and recipes online that "good" for staying fit. Yet most doctors i know dont believe in diets, they just think that if you eat a lesser portion of what you usually eat, and eat fruits and vegetables as well, that you would be fine. But americans are so easily fooled because the people who created these diets/way of eating, are professionals, and we believe believe almost anything if a professional approves of it.

repost of grocery part

When we went to the grocery, as i enter, and looked up, the first thing i saw was a bunch of shelves with chocolate, and other types of junk food, and i notice that junk food, which is kind of weird, cause when i think of grocery stores i think of vegetables, meat, fruits, not junk food, and yet thats the first thing to greet me, shows how much people came to love junk food, it now has to be placed where people can see it first. Also i notice that most of the organic/healthy food, is mixed in with the lesser unhealthy food, which i think is wrongly placed, because at first i hardly noticed it, until i gave another look, so people might miss it, and end up getting the lesser healthy food, which is less benefiting for them.

break homework

over the break i mostly stayed home, read, played some games and sit outside. I noticed that whenever i was inside my apartment, i felt more tired, and kind of like not motivated, but whenever i went outside, i felt better, more free, and relaxed to feel fresh air all around me. Sometimes though i didnt really enjoy being outside, like when i had to go to my dentist and doctors appointment i didnt really enjoy it, because i didnt want to go. So i guess not all the time people are happy being outside, only when it something they enjoy.
To be healthy to me, is to have no type of health problems, like low blood pressure or diabetes, and to not need to take medication and also to have a stable mind,

habitual food and grocery store

When ever we go to the grocery store, we usually go, when there are sales we usually buy, like plantains or yogurt. We mostly buy things to make sandwiches for breakfast or dinner, and bread., and a lot of yogurt. My mom usually buys fruit in those street fruit/veggie stands.
My way of eating different type of food probably came from, growing up with friends of different ethnicity, most of my friends growing up were asian, or half asian and half white, so i grew up eating different types of food, not just the one my mom made at home which was mostly rice and beans and chicken and salad, but also chinese, japanese, thai. My like for certain fruits and vegetables came from my mom, since she always made sure i ate healthy foods too. My diet habits are mostly fill with rice, chicken, berries, and salad and yogurt/milk. My favorite meal, is probably something foreign, something different than what i usually eat, maybe like sushi, or some pad thai with either seafood or tofu. From what i've heard or seen online, both dishes are apparently healthy.

Also i notice that most of the organic/healthy food, is mixed in with the lesser unhealthy food, which i think is wrongly placed, because at first i hardly noticed it, until i gave another look, so people might miss it, and end up getting the lesser healthy food, which is less benefiting for them.

may day

I find it interesting that may day was originally a day of fertility, and spring planting, and then it changed because the british parliament banned it. I find it kind of unfair, because it was something people believed in, and acted upon, and then just because certain people didnt agree with it, it was banned. If people want a day to celebrate fertility, then they should be able to, after its how we were all made, and also it'll help with having more food, because if people take a day to plant food, or plants, it'll help our environment, and our society, so i dont really see anything that bad about it, only the part of having sex in public, but its a normal time in life, nothing to be offended or embarrassed that much about.

food journal

tuesday night, for dinner i had white rice and beans and some salad which my mom made, i ate my food with a spoon, and then a fork for the salad, the dressing had, lime and a bit of salt for the dressing. While eating it i was in my room sitting on my bed doing homework, while listening to music on the TV. I ate the rice and beans at 7pm for 30min, and then the salald at 8:30pm for 15min. My feelings while eating was pretty neutral, wasn't really into it, but wasnt hating the food, i chewed like about 11 times per chew. The next day for breakfast i had 3 yogurts, and a cup of soy very vanilla milk. I enjoyed my breakfast since i love yogurt, ate it with a spoon. I was feeling tired, and was eating it while putting on my shoes, in the living room. Then for lunch, i had some of the school lunch, which was chicken and pasta and some bread. I ate some of the pasta and chicken with a fork, and ate the bread with my hands, but i didnt finish it, because i didnt really enjoyed the lunch. Then for dinner, which my mom cooked, i had some white rice and a bit of beef, and salad. I ate everything with a fork, and chewed like about 11-13 time. I ate in my room reading a book, while music was playing on the TV. It took me about 30min to finish eating the rice and beef, starting at 6:30pm and then 20min to eat the salad, at 7:50.

Food culture, home & corporate

At home, my mom usually is the one to cook the food, but sometimes i would do it instead. The food is usually white rice, chicken cutlet/beef, beans, and salad, or sometimes is pasta with shrimp in it. The food is low on salt, because too much salt can cause kidney stones. Sometimes we just have takeout, like chinese food, or hispanic food. We dont eat together, my parents are in the living room, sitting on their chairs and watching TV, while im eating in my room doing homework. The american of dinner, is to have a meal together at a table, or together infront of the TV, so my family and the american way are different, since we dont spend it together.
